Cooking & Current Reads

I thought I would try a little something on the blog today and call it “Cooking and Current Read” – I love alliterations 😉

So it’s freezing cold in South Louisiana. The past two days have actually been colder than it was in FRICKING Alaska. If that’s not global warming then I don’t know what is. Or El Niño. We can still blame things on El Niño right??

So because it’s so cold I cooked taco soup tonight. My recipe is pretty easy- a lot of dumping is involved and it takes about 30 minutes.

My Cooking:

The ingredients:

I did two lbs of ground turkey but that’s not a pretty photo so I didn’t snap it.

Cook ground meat (your choice- I prefer ground turkey) and drain. Add 1 1/2 cup of water, all the canned items shown above and your seasonings. You can actually use whatever beans you want- this is what I have in the pantry. Only can I didn’t drain was the chili beans. Stir it good, cook on low for about 15 min. Serve and enjoy!

I also enjoy sour cream and cheese on mine but B is dairy free so I have to wait to add those things.

My Current Read:

I received an ARC called Scoring Mr. Romeo by A.M Madden and Joanne Schewhm so I started it late last night. I have about an hour left in it and I am enjoying it. It’s about a single mom who meets her Luca (Mr. Romeo) at her son’s soccer game and there is an instant attraction. She hasn’t been treated like a lady should in awhile and he is here to change that. I’ll do a full review later, so be on the look out.

Women told me I was a master of romance. They were right. I knew how to sweep a woman off her feet, to make her feel special, and good in all the right places. I wasn’t a saint. I’ve had my share of one-night stands. They served their purpose, giving me a steady diet of romance without the hassle of commitment.

Then one day at the park, a soccer ball came careening toward my head, and my life changed in an instant. I never imagined that true love would come in the form of a five-year-old little boy. And then I got to know his mother: She was strong, independent, drop-dead gorgeous, and someone I desired – I just needed to prove it to her.

She called me Mr. Romeo, and that was fine with me.

Lesson learned: Love always trumps everything.

Do you have a favorite winter recipe you cook?  What recipes would you like to see me post about?  What’s your favorite genre?  Let me know!!
